On the morning of May 20, 2023 at 9:00 am, doctoral students Zhang Yukun and Zhou Qiongyi from the NeuBCI Research Group defended their doctoral theses in the fifth conference room of the Intelligent Building. Zhang presented on "Research on Decoding Method and Feedback Training of Motor Imagery Brain-Computer Interface System," while Zhou presented on "Research on Visual Neural Information Encoding and Decoding Methods with Multi-modal Learning." The defense meeting was attended by Professor Gao Xiaorong from Tsinghua University, Professor Yin Xucheng from University of Science and Technology Beijing, Professor Lv Ke from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Zhang Jiacai from Beijing Normal University, researcher Wang Yijun from the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and researcher Xiang Shiming from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. All members of the research group were also present at the doctoral thesis defense meeting of the two students.
At the beginning of the defense meeting, the defense secretary announced the members of the defense expert group and introduced the respondents. The two doctoral students then gave detailed reports on their research topics, focusing on the innovative achievements of their doctoral theses and the academic accomplishments during their doctoral studies. After the reports, the defense experts first recognized the significance and practical value of the thesis topics and then raised a series of related questions. The two respondents answered each question and sparked heated discussions among the defense experts. Finally, after discussion and deliberation by the defense expert group, the defense committee unanimously approved the thesis defense of the two individuals and recommended that they be granted doctoral degrees in engineering.
